ARMY SCHOOL KOLKATA STARTED FUNCTIONING WITH EFFECT FROM APRIL 1994 WITH SEVEN TEACHERS AND 173 STUDENTS UNDER THE AEGIS OF AWES (ARMY WELFARE EDUCATION SOCIETY).  THE SCHOOL IS AFFILIATED TO THE CBSE BOARD AND HAS CLASSES FROM I TO XII.  THE FIRST BATCH OF CLASS XII APPEARED FOR THE BOARD EXAMINATION IN MARCH 2001.  IN APRIL 2002, IT WAS UPGRADED TO ARMY PUBLIC SCHOOL KOLKATA AND BECAME THE FIRST AND ONLY ARMY SCHOOL IN THE EASTERN REGION TO BE ACCORDED THE “PUBLIC SCHOOL” STATUS.  THE SCHOOL SHIFTED TO ITS NEW LOCATION ON 19 MARCH 2007 FROM THE OLD LOCATION WHICH WERE MILITARY BARRACKS REMODELED INTO SPACIOUS CLASSROOMS.  THEREAFTER, THERE HAS BEEN RAPID INCREASE IN ADMISSION OF ELIGIBLE STUDENTS AND THE TOTAL STRENGTH HAS NOW RISED 2679. DUE TO THE INCREASE OF STRENGTH CLASSES I TO IV HAD TO BE RELOCATED TO THE OLD LOCATION (NISSAN HUT) ON 08 AUG 2012.
